PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - The Jackson County Board of Supervisors approved a salary of $94,000 for Charles Britt, appointed to fill the duties of Jackson County Sheriff until the November special election.

The board appointed Britt on Jan. 6 and set his salary Monday. He is the county’s temporary sheriff, taking over the office from former Sheriff Mike Byrd, who resigned last month after pleading guilty to state and federal felony charges.

Britt, a major with the Biloxi Police Department who lives in Vancleave, was selected from a field of 22 applicants vying to fill the job of sheriff in the wake of Byrd’s resignation.
