PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - A former Phoenix police officer has pleaded guilty to disorderly contact, a charge, stemming from a Prescott bar fight that left a man bloodied and bruised.
Eric Amato entered his plea to the misdemeanor charge Monday in Yavapai County Superior Court as part of an agreement with prosecutors. He was ordered to pay a $350 fine and to have no contact with the victim, Justin Stafford.
Amato originally was charged with assault.
A state Department of Public Safety investigation identified Amato as one of two members of a law enforcement motorcycle club who was involved physically in the fight.
Amato had told authorities that he believed Stafford made an aggressive move and was going to hit him.
The Phoenix Police Department says Amato resigned in November.
