EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - The Evansville African American Museum is closed after being damaged by a vehicle that crashed while fleeing from police officers.
Museum director Lu Porter tells the Evansville Courier & Press (https://bit.ly/1aZee7i ) that museum officials are meeting with insurance adjusters to assess the damage.
The weekend crash badly damaged a pillar outside the museum’s entrance and left piece of vehicle bodywork lodged in a window screen of the building that was originally part of a 1938 federal housing project.
Police say officers responding to a call chased the 21-year-old driver early Saturday before he crashed at the museum near the city’s downtown. The car caught fire and the driver was hospitalized in good condition.
