GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) - Montgomery County officials say a 10-year-old boy is dead after he and two other boys fell through ice while playing on a sediment pond.

Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham says firefighters were called to the pond in Gaithersburg on Monday afternoon.

One of the boys, described as between 9 and 11 years old, had reached a relatively safe spot and Graham says a second boy broke through the ice in a relatively shallow spot. But Graham says the third boy, 10-year-old DeAngelo McMullen of Rockville, may have been under water for as long as 30 minutes before he was found.

McMullen was taken to a hospital, where Graham says he died Monday night. Authorities say the two surviving children were treated and released at a local hospital.
