SELMA, Ala. (AP) - A judge has ordered two Selma men accused of fatally shooting a 64-year-old man and robbing him of $43 to be held without bond.

The Selma Times-Journal (https://bit.ly/1d1dYb4 ) reports 62-year-old Orlando Robinson was fatally shot as he walked to his car from a liquor store on Saturday night. Two men, 22-year-old Rodney Walters and 21-year-old Maurice Pope, were arrested in the Robinson’s death the following day. They’re each charged with capital murder.

Judge Bob Armstrong says he considers his refusal to set bond for Pope and Walters as doing his part to curb violent crime in the Selma area.

Attorneys who were appointed for the men say they’ll try finding ways to reduce the severity of the potential sentence.
