WOODBURY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 23-year-old Hudson Valley man who died after being hit by a car was walking to his job at a mall at the time of the accident.

Police in Woodbury in Orange County tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown (https://bit.ly/1hOKZfi ) that Jason Rutkowski of Washingtonville was walking to Woodbury Common where he worked at the Guess Factory Store.

Officials say he had parked at a nearby elementary school and was crossing Route 32 around 7 a.m. Sunday when he was hit by a car driven by a man taking his wife to her job at the same store where Rutkowski worked.



Rutkowski was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say it was dark at the time of the accident and Rutkowski was wearing dark clothing.

The driver hasn’t been charged.
