CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Operation Blessing International is helping relief efforts following a chemical spill in West Virginia that tainted the water supply in nine counties.
The Virginia Beach, Va.-based charity says it sent a truck loaded with more than 36,000 bottles of water and a pallet of meals ready to eat, or MREs, to Charleston. These items will be distributed Monday at The Union Mission in Charleston.
Operation Blessing also has set up a mobile shower trailer truck at Riverside High School in Belle for emergency management personnel.
Another three truckloads of water are expected to arrive in Charleston this week.
West Virginia American Water customers in the affected counties have not been able to use their tap water for drinking, cooking, bathing or washing clothes since the spill occurred Thursday in Charleston.
