MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - Police say a woman was raped by her boyfriend and locked in his garage, but managed to escape by prying off slats covering a broken window.

Medford police said Monday that 38-year-old James Calvin Patterson was held on $3 million bail on charges including rape, sodomy and kidnapping.

Patterson was arrested Friday after the woman escaped and found refuge with a neighbor, who called police.

Lt. Mike Budreau said the 30-year-old woman lived with Patterson off and on, and spent the previous night with him in the garage. Police say he got upset the next day and attacked her, padlocking the door as he left.

Budreau said Patterson still faces charges from an assault against her in July, and he was twice arrested for violating a no-contact order.
