ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - A 48-year-old man is accused of hoarding 13 dogs and then abandoning them in a dirty home in St. George.
Police say several people were seen running from the home Saturday evening even though it was supposed to be empty.
Authorities who responded say they found 13 dogs that didn’t appear to be malnourished but were living in extreme filth.
Police say they spoke with homeowner Dale Jacobs, who told them he was breeding the dogs until the number got out of hand.
He told police he moved out of the home in September and left the dogs there, but returned periodically to feed them.
Animal Control confiscated the dogs, which appeared to be a dachshund mix.
Jacobs was booked on charges including animal cruelty but has since posted bail.
