AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine officials, business and education leaders are working to address the challenges the state faces due to its increasingly older population.
The state is holding a Summit on Aging on Friday at the Augusta Civic Center.
Officials will attempt to come up with plans and policies concerning the aging population, like creating new housing and transportation options and developing ways to attract young workers to the state.
The summit follows several events hosted by Democratic House Speaker Mark Eves of North Berwick this fall on the aging issue. Maine has the nation’s highest rate of baby boomers at more than 29 percent, according to recent census data.
Independent U.S. Sen. Angus King is expected to deliver the closing remarks.
