ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 13-year-old girl who was shot while on the front porch of her home in Rochester was not the intended target.

Capt. Ray Dearcop tells the Democrat & Chronicle (on.rocne.ws/KXTeaD) the girl was struck around 4:50 p.m. Monday while on an enclosed porch. He says a preliminary investigation indicates that several young men were standing in a driveway when a silver minivan drove up and one of the van’s occupants opened fire before the van took off.

The victim, who has not been identified, is being treated at Strong Memorial Hospital for at least one gunshot wound. Her injury is not considered life-threatening.

An investigation is continuing.
