PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A Belleville man faces charges of stealing several items from the Veterans Museum of the Mid-Ohio Valley.

Parkersburg police tell media outlets that 61-year-old Robert Lawrence Burdette is charged with petit larceny.

Museum director Gary Farris says a World I-era bayonet, a World War II-era chaplain’s cap and a World War II-era airborne military patch were stolen from the museum on Jan. 4.

Police say Burdette returned the items on Thursday and was arrested Friday.

Farris credits the arrest to a security system installed after a breaking and entering in 2011.
