NEW YORK (AP) - Several hundred Long Island Rail Road passengers sat aboard a train for nearly two hours after their Manhattan-bound train struck a trespasser on the tracks.
The LIRR says it happened around 4:20 p.m. Sunday on the Port Jefferson line. Service was suspended between Queens Village and New Hyde Park. Passengers remained on the train for about two hours while police investigated.
The train was heading from Huntington to Penn Station when it hit the man just west of the Queens Village station.
The victim’s condition was not immediately known.
Service was restored by 6:30 p.m.
Passengers told Newsday (https://bit.ly/1agoaw7 ) that the railroad distributed water and offered medical assistance to anyone who needed it.
