CHICAGO (AP) - Two Illinoisans will represent the U.S. during figure skating competitions at the Olympic Games in Sochi (SOH’-chee).
Gracie Gold took first place in the weekend’s U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Boston.
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports the 18-year-old moved to the Springfield area in 2010 and studied briefly at Chatham Glenwood High School. She later moved to the Chicago suburbs to train full-time before heading to California to work with her current coaches.
Meanwhile, Highland Park native Jason Brown took second place in the men’s competition. The 19-year-old from the Chicago suburbs finished behind Jeremy Abbott of Aspen, Colo.
The Winter Olympics begin Feb. 7.
