SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah County sheriff’s office says a woman is in critical condition after an avalanche buried her.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon tells The Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/1dywTaq ) that the woman in her mid-20s was caught in a slide as she snowshoed up American Fork Canyon near Tibble Fork reservoir on Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses weren’t able to dig her out. Cannon says she was buried in the snow for about 20 minutes before emergency crews unearthed her. She wasn’t breathing and had no pulse.
The newspaper reports she was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Her identity wasn’t released.
Cannon says that while the avalanche wasn’t “very big, it was very wet and very heavy.”
The Utah Avalanche Center issued a warning of high avalanche danger this weekend in the mountains of northern and central Utah.
