KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Kalamazoo police say an officer has shot and killed a suspect in an abduction and sexual assault case.

The fatal shooting took place Friday at a home in the city.

Department of Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley confirmed to the Kalamazoo Gazette (https://bit.ly/LHOBSb ) the person had been a person of interest in the assault case.



None of the officers involved were injured.

They were at the home at 5:36 p.m. conducting a follow-up investigation related to the assault case when gunfire broke out.

According to a statement from Kalamazoo police, the suspect had pointed a handgun toward officers. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A news conference is planned for Monday.
