LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Six people have applied for appointment to a district judgeship based in Lincoln left vacant by the retirement of longtime judge late last year.

Milissa Johnson-Wiles, Janice Lipovsky, Lori Maret, Richard Rice, and Melanie Whittamore-Mantzios, all of Lincoln, as well as Joseph Dalton, of Waverly, have submitted applications for the bench in the 3rd Judicial District, which encompasses Lancaster County.

District Judge Karen Flowers retired Dec. 31 after 17 years on the bench.

A public hearing of the Judicial Nominating Commission will be held Feb. 25 to review the applications. The public is welcome to attend the hearing and present information concerning candidates for the judicial opening.
