COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A 5-kilometer walk and race is planned for a Columbia neighborhood to help support a transitional community for needy families.

Dubbed, “The Race for the Place,” Saturday’s course travels through the historic Shandon neighborhood in Columbia. On the day of the race, it costs $30 for adults and $10 for kids.

It’s being held to support St. Lawrence Place, which provides two years of housing and transitional support for homeless families with children.

The race and walk begins at 8 a.m. near St. Joseph Catholic Church on Devine Street.

There is a kid’s “fun run” that is held at 9:15 a.m.
