LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A Dona Ana County grand jury has indicted two women connected to a deadly New Year’s Day home invasion north of Las Cruces.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports (https://bit.ly/1fKeRo9) 19-year-old Rachel Carrillo and 18-year-old Cylver Pearl Betancourt were charged Thursday with counts of aggravated burglary and conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary.
Investigators say on Jan. 1, both women accompanied four men who forced their way into the home of Joseph Torrez, a professional mixed martial arts fighter.
Responding officers found one of those men dead after being beaten and stabbed several times.
The court filings indicate Carrillo and Betancourt got into a fight earlier in the day with a 17-year-old girl, who then went to Torrez’s home.
They both will be arraigned Feb. 24.
