PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Pawtucket woman whose 4-year-old grandson ate crack cocaine by accident at her apartment has been sentenced to a year of probation after pleading guilty.

Joanne Oliver was sentenced Thursday in Family Court in Providence. WPRI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1exzCai ) that she pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor, after facing a more serious charge of child cruelty or neglect.

Police say Oliver allowed a known drug user into her home in May 2012 and the boy ate some of his crack cocaine, thinking it was candy. The boy was taken to a hospital but wasn’t harmed.

Oliver’s public defender didn’t immediately return a message Friday.

The boy’s father, Ryan Oliver, also was sentenced to probation this week. Police say he also was in the apartment at the time.
