As he prepared to sign the new farm bill, President Obama ordered his administration Friday to promote a new “Made in Rural America” initiative to promote exports and investment.
Mr. Obama will travel to Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich., Friday to sign the farm bill and give a speech about its importance to the economy.
The president also instructed the White House Rural Council to begin a program with the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Commerce and other federal agencies to connect more rural businesses to export information and aid through a comprehensive strategy, the White House said.
The strategy will include the convening of a conference later this year to connect investors to rural business leaders, and training sessions for USDA staff about export opportunities.
