BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a man is in custody after being found with a loaded handgun inside a Buffalo elementary school.

Buffalo police say Dwayne Ferguson faces two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

They say he was found Thursday inside the Harvey Austin Elementary School. Police say he has a valid permit for the handgun and they don’t’ believe he had any ill intent.

Local news outlets say Ferguson was a longtime president of the MAD DADS Buffalo chapter who works with at-risk children in after-school programs.

The school was put in lockdown shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday when about 60 students were in the building for after-school programs.

About 15 patrol cars responded to the scene.

Information on Ferguson’s lawyer wasn’t immediately available.
