CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - A Clovis man has been convicted on two counts of first-degree murder in a 2011 double homicide case.
Curry County jurors deliberated about an hour Friday before finding 28-year-old Enrique DeLeon guilty in the case. He also was convicted on two counts of child abuse.
Prosecutors say DeLeon is facing two life prison terms when he’s sentenced.
DeLeon was charged in the deaths of next-door neighbors Joe Valero and Guadalupe Castaneda.
Clovis police say DeLeon and the 44-year-old Valero argued during a cookout at Valero’s home on Sept. 13, 2011.
They say DeLeon left and came back with a gun. Shots were fired and Valero died at the scene. The 25-year-old Castaneda later died at a Texas hospital.
The shooting occurred in the presence of the victims’ two children.
