SOUTH BRISTOL, Maine (AP) - Coast Guard crews are on the scene of a diesel fuel spill in the Damariscotta River near the Maine village of Walpole in South Bristol.
Authorities say they received a report Friday morning that a 30-foot barge that had been damaged by ice leaked about 100 gallons of fuel along the river.
The Coast Guard says it has capped the barge’s fuel vents and has deployed sorbent boom and pads to contain the spill, which is estimated to cover a 100-by-20-yard area.
The rest of the fuel is expected to be pumped from the barge on Saturday morning.
