NEW YORK (AP) - An 18-year-old yeshiva student is being accused of scrawling anti-Semitic graffiti at a railroad station on Long Island.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Nassau County police said Thursday that Jonathan Schuster, of Queens, was arrested on charges of criminal mischief as a hate crime and making graffiti.
Authorities say Schuster used a black marker to deface billboards with anti-Semitic statements on eight occasions at the Long Island Rail Road station in Cedarhurst dating back to December 2012.
It wasn’t clear if the senior at Priority 1: Torah Academy of Lawrence-Cedarhurst had a lawyer. Attempts to reach him by telephone were unsuccessful.
Authorities say they are still investigating other incidents of anti-Semitic graffiti in the Five Towns area.
