HICKMAN, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky transportation officials say a ferry that is the only direct route between Kentucky and Missouri won’t operate until further notice because the ferry landings are iced over.
The Transportation Cabinet says Dorena-Hickman Ferry captain Ed Floyd reports with cold weather in the forecast, it will probably be several days before the ferry can operate again. It’s expected to take a day or two of temperatures above freezing to clear ice from the landings.
The ferry closed down Sunday afternoon and stayed closed on a day-to-day basis.
The ferry connects Kentucky 1354 at Hickman with Missouri Route A and Route 77 near Dorena, Mo. Missouri and Kentucky are the only border states that are not directly connected by a road.
