BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A South Texas man injured by a package bomb left outside his home has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for his role in a drug smuggling scheme.
Senior U.S. District Judge Hilda Tagle sentenced 27-year-old Jesus Mauricio Juarez Jr. to 31 months in prison on Wednesday. The U.S. Attorney’s office said that Juarez and others had had a half-ton load of marijuana stolen from them one month before the package was left at Juarez’s Brownsville home. The January 2013 explosion seriously injured Juarez, a woman at the home and their daughter.
No one has been charged with setting the explosive device.
