REDLANDS, Calif. (AP) - A former Southern California teacher who gave birth after an affair with her underage student has been sued by the father.

The San Bernardino Sun (https://bit.ly/1cWtuq5 ) says a lawsuit was filed Tuesday against Laura Whitehurst, Citrus Valley High School in Redlands and the Redlands Unified School District, along with another teacher.

The suit contends they failed to inform authorities of the sexual abuse.

District Superintendent Lori Rhodes calls the allegations “simply untrue.”

Whitehurst gave birth in July after a yearlong affair that began when the victim was 16. Her parents are caring for the child.

Whitehurst pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with the student, who’s now an adult, and with two former students.

She was released last month after six months in jail and registered as a sex offender.
