ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Officials say a Coast Guard helicopter crew medically evacuated an injured cruise ship passenger off Florida’s east coast.
The U.S. Coast Guard reports that the 27-year-old man aboard the Carnival Fantasy began experiencing severe abdominal pain Wednesday.
Following a conversation between the Coast Guard’s on-duty flight surgeon and the physician aboard the cruise ship, it was determined that a medevac was needed immediately.
An aircrew from Air Station Miami responded to the ship, which was more than 80 miles northeast of Cape Canaveral. The aircrew hoisted the man and a nurse off the cruise ship and then transported the man to Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach.
The man’s condition wasn’t immediately known.
