NEW YORK (AP) - The ASPCA is reminding the public that winter storms create risks for animals as well as for humans.

The group says that if you feel too cold to stay outside for long, the same goes for your pet.

The ASPCA says people should develop an emergency plan that includes the safety of their animals.

It also says you shouldn’t let your dog off the leash after a heavy snowfall, because it could easily become lost.

Outdoor cats sometimes sleep beneath cars for shelter. Bang loudly on the hood before starting the engine.
