MACOMB, Ill. (AP) - Western Illinois University in Macomb has its first Ph.D. program.
The Illinois Board of Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission have granted WIU approval to establish a Ph.D. program in environmental science. The school says the program will focus on large river ecosystems and be available at the WIU-Quad Cities campus. Students can begin studies in the program this fall.
WIU also currently offers a doctoral program in educational leadership, or an Ed.D.
A committee of WIU faculty developed the proposal for the new program. They represented geography, biological sciences and math.
