WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Police in Winston-Salem say a man who held a teenager hostage at a local motel has surrendered after a nearly 29-hour standoff.
Authorities say 31-year-old Christopher Shane Jenkins was taken into custody without incident around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Jenkins surrendered to police about two hours after he released a hostage identified as his brother, 16-year-old Andrew Menjibar.
King Police Chief Paula May said Jenkins has outstanding warrants for three counts of aggravated sexual assault in Virginia. He also faces charges stemming from a chase Sunday night, including assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.
May said Jenkins is also facing charges of making harassing phone calls and assault on a female in Forsyth County.
The motel and nearby businesses were evacuated during the standoff.
