FLINT, Mich. (AP) - Flint School District officials say teachers will be paid this month and checks should keep coming - at least through the end of the school year.

The Flint Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1fWdHXf ) the district approved going after about $6 million in loans from the state and requesting to get its February monthly state aid check early. It also signed off on its deficit elimination plan Monday during a special board meeting.

Interim Superintendent Larry Watkins didn’t say how close the district was to missing payroll.

The administration plans to outline potential layoffs and staff restructuring Wednesday. The district has been losing hundreds of students a year.

The district says its deficit is $10.4 million following its audit. It also owes the Genesee Intermediate School District $8.6 million.
