NEW YORK (AP) - New York’s attorney general says three Long Island charities and a fundraising company that failed to dole out most of the donations they collected have agreed to a settlement.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says an accountant is also part of the $500,000 settlement announced Monday.

The groups are identified as Bi-County Helpline for Abuse Against Women and Children; Long Island Responds; and Breast Cancer Funds for Research.

Schneiderman calls them “sham charities.”

But attorneys for the women who headed the groups tell Newsday (https://bit.ly/1kLsbfp ) that they had good intentions.

The agreement requires court approval.
