MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont House Agriculture Committee heads to Bridport and St. Albans this week for two public hearings on reducing pollution caused by farm runoff.
The panel is considering a bill that would made several changes in how farms operate, including requiring fences to keep livestock out of streams.
The legislation comes as the state continues its long-term efforts to reduce the amount of phosphorus flowing into Lake Champlain from its tributaries.
This week’s hearings are both on Thursday - from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Masonic Hall in Bridport and from 2 to 4 p.m. at the St. Albans Historical Society and Museum.
