WELCH, W.Va. (AP) - A defense lawyer says a Virginia man charged with killing the mayor of War will testify at his trial.

Earl Click’s trial resumes Monday in McDowell County Circuit Court in Welch. The 28-year-old resident of Grundy, Va., is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 72-year-old Thomas Hatcher.

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph (https://bit.ly/1i9ODgD ) reports that Click’s lawyer, Ronald Hassan, told the court on Friday that Click will testify. Hassan said the defense will take two days.

City workers found Hatcher’s body in his home on July 17, 2012.

Click’s sister and co-defendant, 32-year-old Rebecca Hatcher, was acquitted of a first-degree murder charge in November 2013. A mistrial was declared on a conspiracy charge. A retrial is scheduled later this month.

Rebecca Hatcher was the mayor’s daughter-in-law.
