SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah lawmaker says the state will soon be better equipped to evaluate if its stringent liquor laws are producing the desired results.
Ogden Republican Rep. Ryan Wilcox says a new set of data is expected to be released by the Utah Department of Public Safety later this session detailing alcohol consumption and other factors pertinent to bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.
Wilcox says this comprehensive set of state-specific data will allow lawmakers to better analyze the existing set of rules.
Wilcox has introduced a measure that would allow restaurants serving alcohol to mix and pour drinks in view of customers. The “Zion curtain” measure died in the 2013 Senate.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is calling on lawmakers to leave alcohol laws alone.
