LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The Lafayette City-Parish Council is expected Tuesday to consider adopting an ordinance that would start the process of resetting the boundary line between Lafayette and Vermilion parishes.

City-Parish Attorney Mike Hebert said during a Jan. 21 meeting that state law requires that Lafayette Consolidated Government fix a time and place to start the running of the boundary.

The Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/1aVSsHz ) the ordinance sets the time and place as 10 a.m. Sept. 15 at the La. 92 bridge at Granges Coulee, west of Maurice. It also appropriates $30,000 for additional surveying and research to re-establish the boundary line with Vermilion Parish east of the Vermilion River.

Councilman Don Bertrand contends that errors were made in redrawing the boundary line as part of a lawsuit several years ago.

Also on Tuesday, the council is expected to ratify the settlement of a lawsuit by Steven Dupuis, a former city-parish attorney, and his wife.

Under the settlement, LCG agreed to pay $775,000 to buy the Dupuis home at 164 Twin Oaks Boulevard.

The Dupuis allege in a 2009 lawsuit that the city of Lafayette did not maintain a concrete coulee behind their house. The coulee cracked and caused erosion and sinkholes on their property and eventually caused cracks in the house and its foundation, the lawsuit alleges
