GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A federal judge has terminated supervised probation for a Batesville doctor, apparently clearing the way for Robert Corkern to become emergency room doctor at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville.

WABG-TV in Greenville reports (https://bit.ly/1cNh7ge ) that U.S. District Judge Neal Biggers granted a request from Corkern’s lawyers this past week.

In the motion, Corkern’s lawyers told Biggers that Corkern began probation Nov. 23, 2012 and had met all the requirements of probation with no violations.

Corkern’s lawyers said the Mississippi Board of Medical Licensure had indicated it would reinstate Corkern’s medical license if he got off supervised probation. Corkern’s medical license was revoked in January 2013.

Corkern pleaded guilty to bribing a former Panola County administrator to use public funds as part of his earnest money to buy Tri-Lakes Medical Center in 2005.

Prosecutors said Corkern used Kaizen Inc., a nonprofit consulting entity owned by then-hospital administrator Ray Shoemaker, to facilitate the purchase.

Cockern testified at the 2012 trial of Shoemaker and co-defendant Earnest Levi Garner, a Batesville businessman, that then-Panola County Administrator David Chandler informed him of $400,000 of hospital-owned money in county custody and agreed to transfer it to the hospital but that Chandler threatened to ruin the hospital unless Corkern paid him $25,000.
