ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Local Harvest grocery store and two related restaurants will remain open in St. Louis after the company raised $120,000 from customers to pay off debts.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1n7aear ) reports that Local Harvest met its goal in the unusual request on Saturday night. Co-owner Patrick Horine says he is stunned by the reaction.
Horine and co-owner Maddie Earnest made the appeal to customers last week. They used Facebook and Twitter to tell customers that if the business didn’t get help by Feb. 7 to pay off debt accrued in a now-closed Kirkwood store, the entire business would close.
They were asking customers to buy gift cards or punch cards that could be redeemed incrementally over the next year.
