PHOENIX (AP) - The newly created position of independent bar counsel for the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct has been filled.

Meredith Vivona will join the staff on April 2.

The position was created earlier this year to ensure that regulatory matters facing lawyers are reviewed and resolved in a fair, timely and impartial manner.

Vivona also will help the commission investigate and prosecute cases involving the conduct of Arizona judges.

The Arizona Supreme Court and the Administrative Office of the Courts announced her hire Thursday.

Vivona began practicing law in Arizona in 2004.
