SEATTLE (AP) - A King County sheriff’s spokeswoman says a 19-year veteran sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for investigation of DUI after crashing his patrol car into the rear of another vehicle in suburban Mill Creek.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Cindi West says Mill Creek officers noticed signs of impairment in the deputy after the Friday morning crash.

A Washington State Patrol drug recognition expert was called after alcohol was ruled not a likely factor. The deputy was processed and released pending results of a blood test.

The 47-year-old deputy, assigned to the city of Shoreline, has been placed on administrative leave.

The other driver suffered minor injuries.

Mill Creek police are conducting a criminal investigation. The sheriff’s office plans an internal investigation.

The deputy’s name was not released.
