ABINGDON, Va. (AP) - A former correctional officer has pleaded guilty to smuggling contraband into the federal prison in Lee County.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Heaphy says 43-year-old Kimberlee Crabtree of Jonesville faces up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to accepting a bribe as a public official. Sentencing is set for May 27 in federal court in Abingdon.

According to evidence presented at the plea hearing, an inmate made multiple payments totaling at least $2,500 to Crabtree in exchange for tobacco products and a cellphone.
