BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Authorities in Baton Rouge have arrested a ninth-grader at McKinley High School after he allegedly brought a loaded handgun to school.
School officials found the .38-caliber pistol in the 16-year-old student’s backpack around 11 a.m. Friday.
Authorities say the teen told them he brought the gun to school “for protection.”
An East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman says the student, whose name was not released, was arrested and booked into the Parish Juvenile Detention Center on counts of illegal possession of a firearm on a school campus and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
