VIERA, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say deputies in central Florida have fatally shot an armed man following a stand-off outside a Brevard County courthouse.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey says the man, who authorities weren’t immediately naming, had made previous threats to judges before showing up Friday morning at the Moore Justice Center in Viera.

Florida Today (https://goo.gl/ob6x1x ) reports that the courthouse was placed on lockdown, and the man spent several hours pacing outside the building as the county’s SWAT team surrounded the area. A Palm Bay police negotiator, who was at the courthouse for an ongoing trial, tried to negotiate with the man.

After three hours, SWAT moved in to subdue the man. Ivey says they tried unsuccessfully to stun the man twice with a Taser before using lethal force. A bomb squad remained at the courthouse to examine a backpack or bag the man carried with him.
