YORK, S.C. (AP) - Three men have been sentenced to prison in what authorities say was the execution-style slaying of a Rock Hill man last year.
Vincent Alfonzo Bratton, 27, was sentenced to 40 years Thursday during a sentencing hearing.
Prosecutors say Bratton killed 31-year-old Shannon Jenkins after breaking into his home on Jan. 27, 2013. Bratton had pleaded guilty to murder last week.
Circuit Judge Paul Burch also sentenced 25-year-old Dennis Page to 20 years in prison while Rockyee Mobley, 25 was sentenced to 15 years.
Prosecutors said the last thing Jenkins saw before his death was a masked Bratton holding a gun to the head of Jenkins’ 9-year-old son, threatening to kill the boy unless Jenkins gave him money and drugs.
Prosecutors say Bratton broke into Jenkins’ home planning to rob him of at least $10,000 and possibly some crack cocaine. Bratton had lived with Jenkins and his fiancee for nearly two years before moving out.
Prosecutor Kevin Brackett said Jenkins’ fiancee, Channon Forte, awoke when she heard a noise.
As Jenkins went to the front of the house to investigate, he was met by Bratton, who shot him in the chest. Brackett said Bratton then stood over the victim and shot him five more times.
The previous day, Bratton had been released on bond on drug, weapons and driving under the influence charges. Prosecutors said he thought Jenkins acted as a police informant.
