PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix toddler survived a near-drowning Friday morning but a 2-year-old boy is dead after drowning in a backyard swimming pool at a home elsewhere in the metro area.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says the 2-year-old’s mother found him unresponsive at a pool at the family home in Anthem late Thursday and that he apparently had been in the water for about five minutes.
The boy was pronounced dead at a hospital. His name was not released.
Phoenix Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra says a 1 1-2-year-old child is being taken to a hospital for evaluation after being found submerged in the family pool in north Phoenix Friday morning.
Saavedra says a neighbor performed CPR on that child, who was awake, alert and crying when firefighters arrived.
