PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Newly released data shows that three-quarters of Latino households in Rhode Island rent, compared to 40 percent of households overall.
The data released Thursday by the Latino Policy Institute at Roger Williams University and HousingWorks RI also indicates that 55 percent of renting Latino households are spending more than 30 percent of their incomes on housing costs. That’s generally what’s considered “cost-burdened.”
The groups say 36 percent of renter households are spending more than half their incomes on housing.
The median income for Latino households in the state is $30,329. The median income for all households is $54,554.
Latinos make up more than 13 percent of the state’s population. That’s an increase of nearly 52 percent since 2000.
