HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A Petal man indicted in a 2012 bank robbery has been convicted in his second trial on an armed robbery charge.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/OFSKs7 ) Artea Chilton IV was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years with 20 to serve after a jury in Forrest County returned a guilty verdict after about two hours of deliberation.

Chilton’s first trial in October 2013 ended in a mistrial when a jury could not reach a unanimous verdict.



He was accused of robbing the BancorpSouth Broadway Drive branch on Oct. 19, 2012.

Chilton testified that it was a misunderstanding. He said he had gone to the bank to talk about a car loan and accepted a bag of money from the bank’s office manager out of confusion.
