OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma City is among eight nationwide being chosen for a training program to help put blighted and abandoned properties back into use.

The training is offered through the Community Progress Leadership Institute, which will be held in Boston in March.

A study conducted last year found more than 12,000 vacant and abandoned buildings in Oklahoma City.

The City Council has adopted an ordinance requiring certain properties to be registered with the city with the goal of rehabilitating, redeveloping or demolishing the buildings.
